leader of the state, died after a prolonged illness at his Hoj-
“He was a licensed evangelist under the APCRCC and in his premature death is a great loss for the APCRCC in particular and Christian community of the state in general,” APCRCC said in a condolence message. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and two sons.
Khimyang gets Sports Club
CHANGLANG, Feb 18: Changlang Deputy Commissioner Chanchal Yadav today declared the Khimyang Sports Club open at the Circle headquarter Khimyang in presence of SP Vijay Kumar.
Dedicated to the people as well as the government employees the club was made operational with facilities of table tennis, carrom and badminton. She also distributed equipments for outdoor games like football and volleyball.

House gutted
YINGKIONG, Feb 18: A house was completely gutted and three others partially damaged in a devastating fire at Pugging village in the early morning of 11th February.
The District Disaster Management Officer Tsangpa Tashi and Starlie Jamoh EAC (Magistrate) rushed to the spot and provided Rs.3000 to the fire victims as an immediate relief from the District Administration. Statehood day volleyball competition
ITANAGAR, Feb 18: A volleyball competition for both men and women began at Yomcha organized by Yomcha administration as part of the Statehood day celebration.
Altogether 14 women and 16 men’s teams are participating in the tournament.

ITANAGAR, Feb 18: The All East Kameng Students’ Union (AEKSU) in a memorandum has urged the East Kameng Deputy Commissioner to instruct the authority concerned to prepare/draw a sketch map of all the schools in the district with proper demarcation of their boundaries within a month or two.
The students union raised the demand in view of the alleged rampant encroachment of school lands in the district. Further, many of the schools in the district are devoid of proper boundary which is encouraging encroachment, said the memorandum.

Itanagar witness massive protest as one die involving PCR van
ITANAGAR Feb 18: The death of schoolboy Biki Somi in a road accident, involving his bike and a PCR Van of the City Police at Itanagar, early this morning sparked massive protest. As per the report he died on the spot due to the impact of the accident. Traffic around Ganga market was halted for nearly five hours after protestors tried to bury the dead body at the accident site.
The family members of deceased alleged that he died after his bike was hit by PCR van around 2 AM in the morning. A pillion rider, identified as Sagar Mibang, is reportedly battling for his life in a city hospital.
Late Somi, a class XII student of Govt. Secondary School, Itanagar hailed from Boasimla under Lower Subansiri district while Mibang is from Pasighat.
As soon as the news of the accident spread, an angry mob started gathering at National Highway near Akashdeep market where the accident took place. By 9 AM, situation went out of control and mob started digging up the national highway. They also burnt down the PCR van, bike of an IRBn jawan and partially damaged a fire tender vehicle. Exposing weakness of Capital Administration, the mob virtually had a field day and national highway was blocked for around 5 hours. Situation was later brought under control with the mediation initiated by community based organizations.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family has questioned the slow response of police.
“After the accident, Police did not take the boys to the hospital. In fact eye witnesses said that Police were trying to flee from the scene. We don’t expect such callousness from the Police,” said one of the relatives. Police on their part has negated such allegation and claimed that injured were taken to hospital by them. They also added that bike was over speeding and had hit the parked PCR van.
To pacify the agitators and the family members, senior Police Officer Nabam Gungte along with DC Capital Mige Kamki held parleys with the representatives of family members.

Strong rural economy need of the hour: CT Mein
ITANAGAR, Feb 18: Stressing the need to improve rural economy, Parliamentary Secretary for Environment & Forests Chow Tewa Mein said that our society and the nation will achieve a state of balanced development only when rural economy improves.
Attending the meet at Tillai, the Parliamentary Secretary said there are many ways in which rural people can improve their economic conditions by choosing the path of self employment. Local resources should be managed for economic sustenance of the rural masses. Bamboo can contribute immensely in bringing prosperity to rural Arunachal, he added. He, however, cautioned against over exploitation of natural resources without replenishing back.
Making fervent appeal to the public to plant bamboos and trees in the forests before extracting forest resources he opined that nature and forest will always help in our economic growth if we manage our resources well and take adequate care for proper forest management.
Expressing his concern, Mein further felt that development of human resources in our state is not up to the mark. We must all collectively work in this direction to achieve the desired level of development, he said.
Mein also gave away free solar lights under the Sri Sri Rural Development Program to all the families in Tillai.
The Parliamentary Secretary, who is also the MLA of the area conveyed gratitude to Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji and the Art of Living, for reaching out to so many rural families, by gifting solar lights to villages yet not electrified.

DDOs asked to ensure deduction of tax at source

ROING, Feb 18: Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Shiv Kumar has directed the DDOs to comply with the government order for realizing TDS as per Arunachal Pradesh Goods Tax (APGT) Act 2005.
Deputy Commissioner Shiv Kumar, who chaired the workshop on Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) conducted by the Department of Tax and Excise, Roing at the Anchal Samiti Hall here today, advised the DDOs to ensure deduction of tax at source before issuing the final bill to the contractors or suppliers as well as to ensure that no firm without registration under APGT Act 2005 be awarded any contractual work.
In case of work already awarded to such firms, the DDOs were directed to inform the contractors to register his/her firm under the said Act before release of his/her payment. The DDOs were further directed to obtain a Tax Deduction Account Number (TAN) from the Tax and Excise Department by applying online at the Government website for the purpose, while surrendering the TAN issued manually by the Superintendent of Tax & Excise.
While Inspector of Tax & Excise Yawa Son explained the objectives of the workshop the details regarding deduction of tax (TDS) by the DDOs on any contract work or supply work as per Arunachal Pradesh Goods Tax Act 2005 was given by Superintendent of Tax & Excise Kabom Zirdo, through a power point presentation.
SP Roing also spoke about TDS on Income Tax.
Later, doubts and queries of the attendees were clarified by Zirdo and other officials of the Tax and Excise Department.
Reportedly, 100 percent attendance from all the departments of the district made the workshop a success.
Farmers urged to cultivate spices
KANUBARI, Feb 18: Ways to boost spices cultivation in Arunachal Pradesh and turn Kanubari into a spice hub were discussed during a meeting between Spices Board of India (SBoI) member Dr Hatobin Mai, officials, panchayat leaders, farmers and others in the presence of local MLA Gabriel D Wangsu at the ADC office here in Longding district today.
Addressing the participants, Dr Mai appealed to the farmers and panchayat members to encourage cultivation of cardamom, ginger etc. in the area, “so that the farmers can uplift their economy.”
Highlighting the financial assistance that the SBoI is making available, Dr Mai said that the Centre is providing a 30% subsidy, while the GoAP is providing a 20% subsidy, to help farmers cultivate spice crops. He urged the farmers to utilize their land to cultivate spices, adding that the SBoI would provide assistance in the form of technical help, training, and other activities under the board’s benefit programme.
Responding to the farmers’ grievance that they face problems in availing of benefits from the board, Dr Mai informed that the SBoI will soon set up offices in every district of the state, and the farmers can approach these offices directly.

Research scholars on indefinite protest
ITANAGAR, Feb 18: Extending its solidarity with Research Scholars of India (RSI)’s nationwide indefinite protest movement on the issue of fellowship hike for research scholars, the Rajiv Gandhi University Research Scholars’ Forum (RGURSF) today organized a peaceful protest in the university campus.
About 100 scholars both M. Phil and PhD from different disciplines like, zoology, political science, history, hindi, education etc and Secretary, (Education), AAPSU joined the protest movement.
RGURSF Chairman Tayuk Sonam read out the prepared memorandum before it was submitted to MHRD, Govt. of India through the Vice Chancellor of the University at the administrative block.
Some of the demands of the Forum include immediate implementation of revised research fellowship, uniformity in the fellowship hike.
The protestors threatened to go for indefinite hunger strike if their demands were not met by the authority concerned at the earliest.
Later, RGURSF submitted the memorandum to the Ministry of Human Recourse (MHRD), Govt. of India through the Vice Chancellor, RGU.

There is a saying which goes like this ‘prevention is better than cure’. Its time health department official pulls up shocks and get ready to face any eventuality. First and foremost they need to give awareness to the citizens about this disease.

Improve BSNL network
Dear Editor,
I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities, public leaders, students union and NGOs towards irregular of BSNL Network at Taliha circle. The BSNL Tower was installed six years back but it has remained silent just like a statue erected. I think the tower was erected for decoration and not for use.
People are deprived from speaking to their loved ones because of lack of network. Students specially who are living in capital of Arunachal Pradesh for their education are facing lot of problem and are unable to convey even a single word to their parent on urgent matters.
I request the concerned authorities to pay attention towards this problem in order to ensure proper maintenance of BSNL network at the earliest possible.

A commendable job
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to share good service rendered by Fire Department. It was yesterday when a fire broke out in our four stories Building in Abotany colony due to short circuit. One of my colleagues came shouting “fire –fire” and alerted everybody.
I also reached the place on 2nd floor where flames were coming out dangerously from burning electric box. It was a very frightening scene. There was total chaos due to gathering of people from all around. They were shouting to call electric department/ police etc. to douse the fire. Some people came for help immediately and threw sand on the fire which controlled it to some extent.
Meanwhile, failing to understand in the chaos what to do, I dialled 100 from my mobile but number was busy. I then hurriedly called 101 and to my utter surprise some body picked the phone and asked me what happened. In the noise, I told him about the fire in the building and gave the address.
Within no time; fire brigade was at my building and took charge. They first disconnected the electric line and then with the use of fire extinguisher and water, doused the fire. Then after noting my name and address, they humbly returned.
Being outsider and living in Itanagar since last seven years, I had not much confidence on the local utility services and system. This incident however proved me wrong. The Fire service was prompt and thoroughly professional. All the members of the team were very humble, sincere and knew their work very well.
I thank the fire department from the bottom of my heart for saving my building from the devastating fire.

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to state that there are numbers of candidate who are pursuing their study outside Arunachal Pradesh and their academic examination will run up to till last of June and there are many who want to study further and the admission of various universities and institutions are usually held during the month of July and August. It is my humble request to the Secretary, APPSC to conduct the APPSC (mains) examination after the month of August, so that we don’t have to choose between our career and opportunity as we already lost more than one year.
